As the first woman to ever capture a major auto racing victory, Danica Patrick has transcended the sport of IndyCar Racing.  This historic victory came in Patrick’s 50th career IndyCar start, sealing her status as a champion professional race car driver and one of the premier female athletes in the world.

2005
Danica Patrick has been racing professionally as an IRL driver since 2005. She started her career with Rahal Letterman Racing and became only the fourth woman to compete in the Indy 500.  She also became the first female driver to lead the Indy 500.  She held the lead for 19 laps.  Her 4th place finish was also the highest finish for a female driver, improving upon Janet Guthrie’s 9th place in 1978.  Danica capped her rookie season with several impressive achievements including tying the record for most Pole Positions won by a rookie with three and capturing Rookie of the Year honors for both the Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series season.

2006
At the Indy 500, Patrick started eighth and finished eighth. Danica placed fourth at Nashville and Milwaukee to tie her career best IndyCar finishes. The March of Dimes awarded Danica Patrick the title of Sportswoman of the Year in celebration of her dedication and success.

2007
In 2007, Danica switched racing teams, signing with Andretti Green Racing.  The 2007 season brought even more racing success including Patrick’s first three career podium finishes, 4 top 5’s and 11 top 10’s.  Danica led 17 laps on the season and scored her career best champion points finish of 7th with 424 points.

2008
Danica Patrick faired well in 2008, both on and off the track.  She supplemented her historic first career victory in Japan with 9 more top 10’s, and she finished the 2008 IndyCar Series season in 6th place- the highest championship finish among American drivers for the 2008 season.  Patrick also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien following her victory.  Other mainstream appearances included a GoDaddy.com commercial during Super Bowl XLII and a spread in the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

2009
Danica placed 3rd in the 2009 Indianapolis 500, which was both a personal best for her at the track and the highest finish by a woman in the event's history. Danica finished the season 5th overall in the point standings, her highest finish to date. Her 5th place finish was not only the highest of any of the Andretti Autosport drivers, but of any non-Penske or Ganassi driver for the 2009 season.

2010
She currently races in the IndyCar Series on the Andretti Autosport team and signed a deal with JR Motorsports in which she officially entered the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Her NASCAR debut took place in the GoDaddy.com green and orange #7 Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway for the ARCA race on February 6, 2010 where she finished 6th. With a full swing media tour in play and a packed schedule splitting her time between NASCAR and IndyCar, 2010 is sure to be Danica's breakout year.
