Just another day in sunny Southern California…?

“There was some talk about fishing on a stand up paddle board going around our shop, and the idea to tow surf behind a shark came up. Is it possible? I thought it would be more than possible and was so confident I set the whole attack mission up. I had the whole thing planned out except for one minor detail… What do I do when it’s right beneath my feet?” – Jared Lane

WINTER OLYMPICS

Canadian speed skater Denny Morrison, wearing Kore, Black, G12 lens and fellow Canadian long track speed skaters defeated the U.S. team to win the men’s team pursuit gold medal at the Richmond Olympic Oval in the final days of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

From Denny Morrison’s website:

‘Before the Olympics there were high expectations for the men’s long track team, especially for the 24-year-old Morrison. But he failed to reach the podium in the 5,000 and 1,000 meters as well as his specialty, the 1,500, in which he used to be the world record holder. There he finished ninth. Although there were reports he was upset with the coaches and the sport bureaucracy, Morrison said it was all on him and used the media reports as motivation.

“It’s a roller-coaster of emotions,” said Morrison of the last 10 days. “I like the conclusion the best. It’s like a story with a good ending, with turmoil in between.

“It’s cool to be able to come together after no medals for any of the men’s team. To win gold as a team, there’s no better way to finish off the Olympics for us.”

In the final, Canada quickly took the lead in the eight-lap race and by the end of the second lap was nearly three-quarters of a second ahead of the Americans. Twice when the U.S. closed the gap, the Canadians reestablished themselves, finally winning by just .21 of a second.’

From the moment he hit the stage, JD mesmerized the audience with his larger than life stage presence and vocal performance. Highlights of the night were Canadian #1 single “Pretty Vegas,” which Fortune co-wrote, and a heartfelt version of the ballad “Beautiful Girl.” The concert was the first time Fortune performed with INXS since their “Switch” world tour in 2007.

“I was so honored to perform at the Olympics with INXS here in my home country, and I am overwhelmed by the fan support pouring in from all over the globe,” Fortune said.

Fortune also wrote and recorded The Death of a Motivational Speaker–a collection of songs that began as an idea for a solo concept album. Instead, it evolved into an ongoing artistic event of audio, video and interaction shared directly with his fans via his website. This new entertainment business model has proven an overwhelming success as evidenced by the millions of hits on the site.

One of Fortune’s songs, One More Day, (Election Day) will be featured in promotional spots for the new CBS prime time drama from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Miami Medical, which premiers Friday, April 2 at 10/9c.

• Fly Fishing – Spring-time Fishermen casting the streams of the Rockies, poling for giant tarpon in the Keys or Redfish in the Louisiana backcountry need a lens with a blend of brightness and proper contrast. Many of our guides prefer our Copper lenses, relying on C12 lenses for bright conditions, C28 lenses when it turns overcast or flat light. Another option is Yellow 35 (Y35) lenses which are ideal for fishing overcast conditions or during periods of spotty cloud cover.

Don’t just take our word for it – check out what everyone is saying. And let the catches speak for themselves.

Last weekend Danica Patrick was on the track in Las Vegas for her third NASCAR. She heads back to IndyCar, totally focusing on that series and her main goal of Winning of the Indy 500 in May. Danica will drive both series throughout the summer, starting up NASCAR again in late June.

Still the focus of intense media coverage and scrutiny, Danica is showing a lot of class, dedication and the ability to digest heaps of humble pie. She’s not only earning respect from her fellow NASCAR drivers, she’s making big gains on the track as well.

Racing as high as 3rd place after starting way back in 37th, she was taken out by another driver in a multi-car accident just shy of the halfway point.

Racer.com wrote, ‘Danica Patrick showed great progress on her third outing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series until contact with a backmarker put her out of the race.

After qualifying down in 37th, she dived on the inside of Michael McDowell on lap 84 at Turn One, the pair made contact and both cars ended up against the barrier. He later took the blame for bringing her afternoon to an early end when she was running 24th and a lap down on the race leader.

“The car ahead of me was really slow and I caught him down the front straight and it was just going slow. So I went to go underneath him as he drifted up to the wall and he turned down in,” Patrick explained. “I guess I probably should have seen all the tape on the left-rear bumper and say, ‘I probably shouldn’t be on his left-rear bumper.’ But sure enough he turned down and took us both out. So, what are you going to do?”

Before the incident, Patrick had run as high as third thanks to being out of sequence with most of the leaders and running a very long first stint until lap 73. Her times on new rubber on her second tire stint looked comparable with some of those in the top-10 and she was among the fastest cars on the track right before crashing out.

“It’s a real bummer because I was really hooked up there after we got [new] tires back on and you know, we were probably one of the quicker cars on the track because we just stickered it up and I felt good,” Patrick added.’

For more on Danica Patrick’s Vegas race, check out the rest of the Racer.com story here.

Share the dream – watch Julia Mancuso in her final 2010 Olympic event Wednesday February 24th. Julia has won three Olympic Medals thus far, the most ever for any female American alpine skier (Gold in Women’s Giant Slalom 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy; Silver in Women’s Downhill and Silver in Women’s Super-Combined in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada). As a fan of Kaenon’s line of women’s sunglasses Julia Mancuso has been seen in Joss Black, G12 lens, Calais Tortoise, C12 lens and Leila Black Opal, G12 lens which she’s been wearing around the slopes in Whistler the past few weeks.

In this Visa commercial, Julia Mancuso gets a special message from Morgan Freeman who narrates the early visions of Julia’s quest for Olympic achievement. The commercial was inspired by a poster Julia drew herself when she was 12 years old. The poster still hangs in the locker room of her stomping grounds to this day.

Earlier today, Julia Mancuso shared with Ellen DeGeneres and audience her path on becoming an Olympic Gold Medalist. Here she talks about the balance of athleticism and media and the importance of staying focused on her skiing, despite the ebbs and flows of publicity and media attention.

Danica Patrick had a very full week, which culminated in her second NASCAR attempt in Fontana, CA on Saturday. After making appearances on Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen DeGeneres, multiple LA-area news shows and features in People and US Weekly magazines, she actually squeezed in some time to drive her second NASCAR race in Fontana, CA.

She had a tough go, finishing 31st. But, she’s focused, and is doing everything right—one step at a time—and is taking her lumps with class. When you compare the last four Indy Car drivers success (or lack thereof) making the transition to NASCAR—she is right on pace to where those great drivers were in their first races.

Burnet and Pino were her Kaenon Polarized Sunglasses of choice over the weekend.

Saturday will be Patrick’s last NASCAR Nationwide Series race of her initial three-race stint before she goes on a four-month hiatus to return to driving full-time in the Izod IndyCar Series. Hitting the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday in the Sam’s Town 300, she’ll return to NNS competition at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June.

Julia Mancuso Now Two-for-Two in Two Days!
Takes Another Silver in Today’s Super Combined

Let’s see…two days, two Olympic Women’s Alpine events, two Silver Medals! Kaenon Polarized Team Rider Julia Mancuso is proving to the world she’s no one-win-wonder, claiming her second Silver Medal in as many days in the grueling Super Combined event today at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. In the first half of the event— the Downhill—Julia led off early with a time of 1:24.96. US teammate and yesterday’s Downhill Gold medalist Lindsey Vonn edged her out by 0.8 seconds, and German skier Maria Raush also posted a slightly faster time, pushing Julia into the third slot halfway through.

Just a few hours later in the Slalom half of the competition, Julia ripped it up again, giving her a combined time of 2:10:08. Her consistent skiing across the two different courses put her back on the podium on the Silver medal stand. Maria Raush won Gold while Vonn crashed out in the slalom. Only Julia Mancuso now has a chance to medal in every Women’s Alpine event in this Winter Olympic Games.

Today’s medal landed Julia in very fine company, making her only the fifth American woman to win two alpine skiing medals in the same Olympic Winter Games – a feat that hasn’t happened since 1964.

Mancuso races on Saturday in the Super G, and Wednesday of next week in the Giant Slalom, the event where she won Gold in the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.

Julia Mancuso, wears an assortment of Kaenon’s women’s sunglasses representing sports, lifetsyle and luxury performance styles such as Calais, Burnet, Georgia, Zaza, Leila and Joss.

Don’t party yet, Jules … rest up, we think you’ll be the first American woman to go four-for-four!

Congratulations to Julia Mancuso who is now the most decorated female American Olympic Alpine Skier with 3 Medals!

Sporting Black Opal Leila’s by Kaenon Polarized in the Winner’s Circle, it was a tense 15 minutes or so for Julia Mancuso Wednesday in Vancouver during the much anticipated Women’s Downhill after she posted the fastest time of the day. While TV camera’s focused on her jubilation after her run, Julia slid on her Leila’s and had to wait, skier, after skier to see if her time would stick.

Leading the field from early on with a blazing time of 1:44.75, Julia set the early pace. She held the lead until US teammate and childhood rival Lindsey Vonn, the 16th skier down the hill, put up a time of 1:44.19.

The Americans held a clearly dominant position in a race characterized by several crashes — including one to Swedish standout Anja Paerson

Mancuso’s finish of just 0.56 seconds behind the heavily favored Vonn proved that she is still very much a force to be reckoned with on the snow—especially when it counts. Elisabeth Goergl of Austria took the bronze medal, 1.46 seconds back.

It’s the third time two Americans have finished 1-2 in an Olympic Alpine race, and the first time in 26 years.

Many heartfelt congratulations to Julia and the US Ski Team!

Julia Mancuso wears an assortment of Kaenon’s women’s sunglasses representing sports, lifetsyle and luxury performance styles such as Calais, Burnet, Georgia, Zaza, Leila and as shown above, Joss.

As written in the Associated Press wrap up story, “At the finish, Mancuso knew right away she had done something special and let out a big scream of delight, pumped her right fist and showed a big smile. Then she put on a pair of black sunglasses (Leila Black G12)and waited for the favorites to come down.”

Many heartfelt congratulations to Julia and the US Ski Team!

John Kostecki in Celebration Mode

John Kostecki of BMW Oracle Racing, made the call of the match – one that proved to be the defining moment in Race 2 of the 33rd America’s Cup. The talented and decorated tactician and longtime wearer of Kaenon’s patented SR-91® polarized sunglasses, Kostecki made a tactical decision that put America’s BMW Oracle Racing in position to take the lead and go on to ultimately win Race 2 and the America’s Cup. Several of USA 17’s key players, and those on the losing Defender, relied on Kaenon Polarized to read the fickle breeze in Valencia.

After winning the first race in the best-of-3 match, which took place on Friday, February 12th, BMW Oracle Racing only needed one more win to bring the iconic trophy back to America. Wearing Hard Kore, C28 lenses, Kostecki relied on the razor-sharp clarity of his SR-91 polarized lenses – and trusted what he saw – more breeze and a slight shift to the left towards the end of the first leg of Race 2. Confirming what he was reading with the computer data that also indicated a shift in his boat’s favor, he called the tack that placed BMW Oracle’s USA 17 ahead of Alinghi 5, to take the lead at the top mark. That call, was the defining moment that made the race one of pure speed from there on out. BMW Oracle’s Winged trimaran had more speed – and showed that America’s Cup 33, a unique Deed of Gift match – was purely about technical innovation. Kostecki’s most important tool as the winning tactician? Kaenon Polarized! As the most technically advanced sailing sunglasses to be invented, Kaenon’s SR-91 polarized lenses were the choice of tacticians on both teams, all trimmers and key personnel!

EPIC BATTLE AT SEA – 33rd AMERICA’S CUP
Valencia, Spain

With rivalries abound and court room proceedings laid to rest, the 33rd America’s Cup is finally underway. Two giant multihulls operated by the world’s best sailors, are navigating at speeds in excess of 25 knots, representing the fastest sailing to have ever been seen in the history of the America’s Cup. The Defender – Alinghi and the Challenger – BMW Oracle Racing are fighting for the oldest trophy to be competed in international sports, period!

RACE 1 Kaenon Polarized was all over the unprecedented America’s Cup, featuring the most innovative and exciting sailboats ever built. BMW Oracle Racing tactician, John Kostecki, wearing Hard Kore, C12 lens put USA 17 in an excellent position at the start to draw a penalty on Alinghi. This move provided an immediate advantage to the American Challenger.

As the start gun fired, Alinghi 5, with tactician, Brad Butterworth also wearing Hard Kore, C12 lens, held a brief speed advantage, until Kostecki spotted a slot of stronger, favorable breeze that allowed BMW Oracle to climb above and move forward on Alinghi to wrestle the lead shortly after the start. After that, the Challenger’s Wing Sail – operated and trimmed by Dirk DeRidder, wearing Kore, G12 lens, and Joey Newton in Hard Kore, G12 lens – proved more efficient with BMW Oracle holding a 5% speed advantage upwind and an 11% advantage downwind, to claim huge time and distance victory in Race 1.

RACE 2 will be 39 miles long and around an equilateral triangle course comprising a 13 mile beat and two 13 mile reaches. The Race will be held this Sunday in Valencia, Spain.

Danica Patrick just wrapped up a weekend that could fill up an entire memory book in and of itself! She practiced and drove her debut NASCAR race Friday and Saturday, finishing in a very solid sixth place, then starred in multiple Go Daddy Super Bowl commercials Sunday alongside being promoted for her prime time television drama debut.

This week she goes into non-stop media mode, guest starring on prime time TV series “CSI: NY” on Wednesday night. Next week she will be working the talk show circuit–on morning radio, and daytime and late night television.

In Saturday’s incident-packed ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Daytona, Danica Patrick and the Green and Black Go Daddy #7 pushed, got pushed, spun and rebounded around the famous Daytona Speedway to a respectable sixth place in her first-ever Stock Car race. She overcame a tough spin from contact with Nelson Piquet Jr. late in the race and ran as high as fifth before running out of drafting partners to move farther up the order.

“The car felt pretty good, so that was really fun,” Patrick said. “I was going side by side with people, and the Go-Daddy car doesn’t look very pretty but it was fun.”

Her solid finish convinced Patrick and JR Motorsports that Danica is ready to compete in the Nationwide Series. Danica Patrick and the team were initially wary of entering the race because of the top-level talent it attracts as the biggest race of the season.

“I think Danica proved to everyone that she can compete in stock cars at a high level, and right now seat time is extremely important,” said Kelley Earnhardt, general manager of JR Motorsports, a team she owns with brother Dale Earnhardt Jr. “She has worked extremely hard during the past two months for this opportunity. Her dedication and work ethic is infectious.”

Black Burnet G12 was Danica’s sunglass of choice for the action packed weekend.

Mancuso is the only female American Alpine skier with an Olympic medal to her credit, the gold in the giant slalom won four years ago in the Italian village of Sestriere.

Julia is in shape and ready for Vancouver and hopes are high for her success across the globe.

The weather didn’t provide much sun last week, but Kaenon’s golfers braved the elements and thanks to the range of Kaenon performance lens tints, played through the tough weather at the famed Riviera Country Club in the Northern Trust Los Angeles Open. Robert Allenby lives in Hard Kore C50 lens, rain or shine, and battled conditions more similar to St. Andrews Scotland than to LA, as the area saw heavy rain throughout the tournament.

by Matt Peters (Guest Contributor)

The recent FLW Outdoors National Guard Eastern Series tournament on Lake Okeechobee was a sight fishing shootout. The fish had moved up on beds to spawn and the winning weights came from guys able to get the big females to bite. The conditions for the tournament were pretty ideal for sight fishing: mostly sunny skies, with slight cloud cover and light breeze.

When it comes to sight fishing, you’ve got to be able to position your boat as far from the fish as possible, and yet still be able to see what is going on. Enter Kaenon Polarized. I wore the Arlo with Copper 12 lenses the entire tournament and was able to stay off the beds, work the fish from a distance, and get the job done. The C12 lenses give you ample brightness to see down in the black Florida freshwater. Of course, the polarization takes the glare off the water so you can see the fish, see your bait, and make the best possible presentations to irritate the big girls into biting.

The below picture shows my view of a bed without polarization:

Here is that same bed, holding a pair a Arlo C12s over the camera lens: (notice the 3 pounder swimming away at 10 O’clock):

And here I am with my Arlo C12s and some Day 2 tournament fish, including a beautiful 6 pound female that helped me to a 40th place finish and $5250:

I’m gonna be here another few weeks to practice for one more event on Lake Okeechobee, aka, the Big O. When conditions get really cloudy and grey, I’ll be reaching from my Hard Kore’s with the Y35 lens to optimize the amount of light I can get to see, should the conditions turn from bright to cloudy. Otherwise, I’ll just stick to my Arlo C12s. Kaenon’s got you covered for sight fishing.

Matt Meola is the new age of surfing. Huge airs and some of the most progressive moves you will have ever witnessed to date. He will change the way you look at surfing, forever. Matt is excited to do more filming and travel in the future and eventually his own movie. For big wave action, he loves surfing Jaws where he knows the crew and can get waves but he really isn’t interested in tackling other big wave spots at this time. You can check Matt out live at the upcoming Volcom VQS Championships in Newport Beach this May. Matt Meola wears Burny Black G12.
