Kaenon Polarized

Starting this week, Kaenon Polarized surfers Lakey Peterson (Sequence, Gold, G12 lens), Austin Ware (Gauge, Abalone, G12 lens), Shea Lopez (Calais, Matte Black, G12 lens), Dane Gudauskas (Jetty, Havana, G12 lens) and Jason “Ratboy” Collins (Burny, Black, G12 lens) are all in town for the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, to vie for one of surfing’s biggest titles. Kaenon fans and followers of the team have a chance to get in on the action firsthand—follow Kaenon and Lakey on Facebook and Twitter to participate in our “Follow Lakey, Find the Gold!” contest to win a pair of the new Sequence aviators! Lakey Peterson is the hottest up and coming girl surfer that could easily dominate the world tour in a year or 2. She is only 15 and the #1 ranked female surfer under 18 in the nation. Lakey sits down and talks about journey to the US Open of Surfing.

Lakey Peterson has a solid chance of winning the biggest event in surfing her first year out in the big leagues, as the US Open is right around the corner.  She just walked away with her second consecutive win at US Nationals, and at the young age of 15 she is looking to have what it takes to go far in the surf world. Watch for her as the US Open starts at the end of this month.

Lakey wears Sequence Gold G12 as well as Eden Tobacco Olive G12

Lakey Petersen (Joss Black G12) took her second consecutive NSSA National Open Women’s Title this last weekend at Huntington Beach pier. Pushed up against the clock, Lakey sat in second place, until in the final seconds an interference call on leader Nage Melamed cut the young Hawaiian’s second score in half giving Lakey the win. “Really, I couldn’t be happier,” Peterson said. “The waves didn’t really offer much out there, but I did what I could with the ones that I got. That’s how surfing is.”

Fellow Kaenon surfer Jesse Guglielmana (Burnet Havana G12) also surfed his way into the Junior Men’s finals. Jesse managed to out-perform poor conditions by dropping big moves including a frontside three, landing it clean and earning strong scores and a well-earned second place.

Lucas Angulo from Kauai also surfed solid all the way to the Semi finals in the boy’s division.  Lucas wears Burnet Black G12.

Congrats to Lakey Peterson, who won the girls 18 and under in the final leg of the Surfing America Prime series, finishing her in second for the season. In the final minutes of the Malibu contest, Lakey pulled a huge air, edging out competitor and rival Courtney Conlogue, women’s winner of last year’s US Open. Look for more great surfing to come from Lakey!

Lakey Peterson wears Burnet Black G12

From Lakey, “I just got back from an amazing two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia! I started out in NZ where I did the ISA world junior championships. Basically every country from around the world that has a surf team take what they think is the best four girls and eight boys to represent their country. I had a great time and felt like I surfed really well. I ended up getting fourth in that event so I was stoked… fourth in the world for me isn’t too bad!”

Lucas Angulo, who wears Bolsa, made it to both Finals in his divisions (Open Boys and Explorer Menehune), ending up with a 6th in Open Boys and a 2nd in Explorer Menehune. Heis now ranked 3rd in the Hawaii Region in Explorer Menehune and 4th in the region in Open Boys, and has qualified for Nationals in Open Boys, Explorer Menehune, Open Juniors and Explorer Boys. Lucas surfed in nine heats over the three-day event and made it to the Finals in his two main divisions. He also made it through a couple of heats in the older boys divisions, securing his place in those two divisions as well for Nationals.

The latest from Porter: “My last event was held at the South Side of the Huntington Pier. I was happy to be competing in the S.A.L.S.A Surfing event because it was a charity contest for Lou Gehrigs disease and I was proud to show my support. I was competing in the combined mens and pro division. The waves were good and I was ready for an eventful day. After about 4 heats of solid surfing I found myself in the finals. With the tide shifting to high I knew that it would be a difficult final. I ended up getting some fun waves and finished 2nd.”

SURF – SANTA BARBARA, CA
Competing against girls much older, 14 year old Lakey Peterson placed 3rd in the 18 and under girls division at the SIMA Pac Sun Surfing America event in Huntington Beach and took 2nd place in the 16 and under girls division.

Lakey has made the US team, and is headed to compete in New Zealand and continues to make an impression on fans and sponsors alike.  Lakey was recently added to the Nike 6.0 team and is gaining quite a bit of exposure on upcoming sports oriented TV shows. Filming began recently for the Fox show, The Winning Edge, expected to air in November and she’s also been invited to appear on Fuel TV’s New Pollution. New Pollution features up and coming action sports athletes. Lakey wears Kaenon women’s sunglasses in Georgia as well as Burny.

SURF – SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Lakey Peterson Wins!
National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – Trestles, San Clemente, California

Lakey Peterson did it! She won the NSSA National Open Women’s Championship. Although she competed in several divisions and walked away with a second in the Explorer Girls, winning the Open Women’s had the most prestige. Lakey set the tone by scoring a 9.0 wave, where she completed a solid air. This maneuver had the fans on the beach and over the internet in a frenzy.

At age 14 Lakey is one of the youngest females to win this Division, which makes her the Women’s Jr National Champion. The competitors in this contest are the very best, many of whom are several years older than Lakey and come from all over the United States, including Hawaii. NSSA Nationals is the largest and most prestigious amateur competition in the U.S for surfers 18 and under. Lakey wears Burny Black G12.

Kaenon Team rider Chandler Parr surfed solid all the way to the Semi Finals where she just missed one of the set waves and finished the heat in 3rd and unfortunately did not advance to the final – but a spectacular finish nonetheless. Chandler wears Calais Tortoise C12.

Jesse Gugliemana, a new Kaenon Grom from Kauai, wearing Gauge. Kristy Gugliemana, Jesse’s mom is a big fan of Leila. Jesse just made the Quiksilver team and surfed solid through several rounds in the Open Juniors.

SURF – HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA

In head high conditions, Lakey Peterson dominated the 16 and under division. On the first day she scored a 9.8, almost a perfect 10. She followed up the second day surfing solid again and wining the event. Lakey wears Burny Black G12 sunglasses.

This past weekend, she won NSSA Salt Creek and is now competing at the NSSA main event at Tressels June 23 – 27, 2009.

SURF – OCEANSIDE, CA
Here is more from Lakey’s accomplishments as she chased the Jr Tour. She’s proving that she’s a solid contender for the future as she piles on the junior victories – at age 14 she has plenty of time. Lakey Peterson wears Burny Black G12. Lakey won the 16 and under title and finished second in the women’s 18 and under.

SURF – NSSA WESTERNS – HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA
Lakey Peterson boosted aerials at the NSSA Western Championships during the Men’s Air Show (that’s right – we said Men’s), which put her into the finals – a feat that has never been done before by a female! Competing in four events overall, Lakey took 1st in two events, the Girls Fourteen and Under Division, the Explorer Women’s Division, placed 2nd in the Open Women’s Division, as well as her final stand in the Men’s Air Show. Great job Lakey!
