We Always Knew Tyra Had Nice Guns

VOLLEYBALL

Tyra Turner recently competed with the other USA teams at the SWATCH FIVB World Championships in Stavanger, Norway. Followed by 4 Grand Slams which took them to Gstaad,Switzerland; Moscow, Russia; Marseilles, France; and finally Klagenfurt, Austria. Afterward, Tyra and her team partner Angie Akers extended their trip 3 days to visit the US troops in Kosovo.

“That was the best part of the trip. I now have my very own set of dog tags, got to shoot some M-16’s and ride in a Bradley tank. We also played volleyball with the troops and sang karaoke, which we hope boosted their morale,” said Turner.

Tyra and Angie had great results overseas and maintained their 5 seed, 5th in the world, not to shabby for their first year together. Blending beauty and performance with ease, Tyra Turner wears Leila from our line of women’s sunglasses and Hard Kore from our sport sunglasses line.

America’s Cup – It’s On!

SAILING
The Oldest Trophy in Sport, The America’s Cup will be a one-off match race (one-on-one) between the defender Alinghi from Switzerland (skippered by our Kaenon’s Brad Butterworth) and the American Challenger, BMW Oracle (skipper and CEO, Russell Coutts and owned by Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison), in Giant Multihulls. The race is expected to take place in February and the location will be announced August 8 by the defender.

These boats are insane – gigantic multihulls that have never been designed or built of this size that will reach unheard of speeds on the course. If you’re a sailor – and even if you’re not, the America’s Cup will be a spectacle. The world-wide exposure from this event will likely be unprecedented for many reasons.
Below, BMW Oracle’s 90-foot x 90-foot Trimaran training off San Diego last week in very mild conditions.

Danica Patrick – Iowa Corn Indy 250

AUTO RACING INDY CAR SERIES – NEWTON, IA
Danica Patrick led about 22 laps of the Iowa Corn Indy 250, before flat tires and bad luck intervened. Her comment after the race:

“We started off with a good car, but it just wasn’t our day. We got a couple flat tires at the beginning of the race, which was a bummer but then we just changed up the strategy a bit, which allowed us to lead a few laps. But then the yellows started to come out and we were at the wrong place at the wrong time. But it was a top-10 finish for us, so if this is the worst finish we have this season, I can’t complain.”

Danica Patrick: Started 5th, finished 9th

Danica Patrick has been wearing the yet to be released Burnet Havana G12 – the newest addition to the Kaenon Polarized line of Luxury Performance Sunglasses.

Julia Mancuso Free Climbing & Skiing Europe’s Glaciers

FREE SKIING – EUROPE
Julia Mancuso wearing Calais Tortoise C12 free climbing one of Europe’s Glaciers.

Taking her assortment of Kaenon’s women’s sunglasses along for the ride, Julia spends the off season mountain biking, surfing, stand up paddling, hiking and wake surfing as seen in this video

Here’s an update from her blog posted June 17, 2009 –

“Its been a crazy few weeks, with lots of friends and teammates in town! I guess the word is out that Maui is the place to be!!! Keely Kelleher, Megan McJames, and Hailey Duke were cruising around Maui causing trouble only as skiers can! Also my coach Chris, and dryland coach Ernie came by to check out our setup here.

There is just so much to explore even close to home. We took a little trip to Lanai the other day, which is Maui’s neighboring island, and we felt worlds away. It was so peaceful and the water was so clear and blue! Its so easy too: Just hop on the ferry and you’re there in 45 minutes!

We brought our Stand-up paddle boards and cruised around, though we were hoping for some surf, i guess the swell didn’t hit yet! Anyway it was fun fun fun! Enjoy some of my favorite pictures.”

Yuri Hauswald – Kaenon Polarized Endurance Rider Goes Down

MOUNTAIN BIKE – CALIFORNIA
Tragedy strikes even the best of riders. Yuri Hauswald one of Kaenon’s beloved went down hard breaking his hand and thumb during a training ride on Whittier Bluff Road near Tomales. As a world class mountain biking competitor, Hauswald was preparing for the upcoming B.C. Bike Run when he hit a bump traveling between 25 and 30 miles per hour. Bouncing his hands off the handlebars, Yuri flipped to the ground. hitting his head, bruising his ribs and breaking his hand. Luckily, Yuri was wearing a helmet – however the hand injury required surgery that left him with with no choice but to cancel his planned trip to Canada and participation in the rugged B.C. Bike Run, a seven-stage race of some 250 miles that includes more than 30,000 feet of climbing. Read the full article here.
